How Do I Care for My New Stoneware?

Your new stoneware is a testament to skilled artisans who meticulously hand-glaze and kiln-fire each piece. Stoneware boasts exceptional durability due to its dense clay composition, making it well-suited for everyday use. With its sturdy construction, stoneware is highly resistant to chipping or cracking, offering reliable longevity.

Overall, stoneware is known for its resilience, rarely succumbing to breakage even with regular use. To honor their craftsmanship and preserve the allure of your stoneware, here’s what you need to know:

Stacking Matte Products: Each piece of stoneware is unique and deserves individual attention. If stacking matte products on top of each other, add a small piece of paper towel or another divider to prevent scratching and maintain the flawless finish of your stoneware. If small scuff marks appear, a paste of water and baking soda, water and cream of tartar, or Bar Keeper’s Friend may help remove the marks. We also have another product we can recommend for scratch removal on matte finish. Please email us at info@carthage.co and we are happy to assist!

Dishwasher and Microwave Safe: Enjoy the convenience of dishwasher and microwave-safe stoneware without compromising quality with Carthage.Co. Gentle Hand Washing: When hand washing to care for your stoneware, use a soft sponge or washcloth to gently remove debris, avoiding heavily abrasive cleaners or harsh scrubbing. A green Scotch Brite pad is fine for cleaning your stoneware. If scratches occur, please reach out to us at info@carthage.co and we can assist with methods to remove the scratches. All Carthage.Co products are also dishwasher safe.

No Steel Scrubbers: Protect the delicate glaze of your stoneware by avoiding steel scrubbers. Opt for gentle cleaning tools, such as bamboo brushes or natural fiber scrubbers, to maintain its pristine appearance. By choosing gentle cleaning methods, you preserve the integrity of your stoneware for years to come.

Mind Your Utensils: Regular metal silverware can be used on all of our Carthage stoneware dishes. When using stoneware, adopt a gentle approach while cutting food. Applying excessive force when cutting can lead to unsightly marks on the surface of the plate, detracting from its appearance. Instead, opt for a lighter touch, allowing the knife to glide smoothly without exerting too much pressure. Use a cutting board if sharp knives are needed.

By avoiding forceful cutting motions, you can preserve the pristine beauty of your matte stoneware plates for longer periods, ensuring that they remain a delightful addition to your table setting. The beauty, durability and weight of stoneware assures you will enjoy it for many years.

Caring for your handcrafted stoneware is a labor of love and appreciation for the artisans who bring beauty to your table. By following these guidelines you ensure that your stoneware remains a cherished part of your kitchen. With each meal served on your stoneware, you celebrate the union of craftsmanship and sophistication, turning dining into an artful experience filled with elegance and charm.
